Issues on Clip+
« on: January 19, 2015, 05:50:38 PM »
Hope I can get some troubleshooting help with my player:

I'm running rockbox v 3.13 on a sansa clip+ and have a couple of issues.

1. The player frequently hangs - during an hour of use it'll freeze up about 3-4 times and I'll have to do a hard reset to get it going again.

2. The battery life is garbage - off of a full charge, I can use the player for about 4-5 hours before it dies out. This may or may not be related to rockbox, I haven't used the stock firmware at all yet.

I've uninstalled rockbox and reinstalled yet the issues remain. Any suggestions??

You're running a 2 year old build.  Update it and see if your problem still occurs.  I don't know if that will fix your crashing issue, but battery life will certainly be a lot better.

I run my Clip+ on that firmware for up to seven hours a day (about half of that on pause) after which it shows half battery which is in line with spec.  I suspect you may have a duff device.

Updated to 42219b6-150119. At least it's not crashing anymore, but battery life is still only about 5-7 hours. It seems like the battery is draining even when powered off.  May be that the battery itself is faulty.

How did you test?

Installed and then fully charged. Started the runtime under the system menu. Last night, I let it build up the database, which brought it down to about ~70%. I've been listening to it today since and it's at 8% with a runtime of 7 hours 9 minutes.

So about 8 hours then.  I get closer to 17 hours on mine, although the battery is pretty good shape.

What a lossy or lossless formats you used?

That's something else I was worried about...I'm using a mix of .m4a and .mp3 files.

That shouldn't make much difference unless you're using AAC-HE or APE.  Regular AAC, MP3, FLAC, etc are all very fast.
