[No Tag] Skipping tracks
« on: September 07, 2011, 10:10:43 AM »
Hey Guys,

First post, hi!

So I have a Sansa v2 and all my music is flac. Some of My tracks won't play in Rockbox; it just skips over them. When it does that I get a brief flash of the song and at least one of the labels (track, artist, album) either has [No Tag] written beside it or the [No Tag] IS the label.

The tracks play fine in Banshee (my media player) and Nautilus (my file explorer which has a scroll over and play feature) and also in the OF. I've tried both the full release and the archived builds and both have the same problem.

Thanks guys!

Edit: Forgot to mention the two methods I tag my music with are MusicBrainz Picard and manually. I don't remember which one I used for which files. But I'm pretty certain some from both methods work (maybe all the ones that don't are from one method tho. Making sense?)

Check the files with the official flac tools.  If they don't report any errors, post a bug report with a link to one of the files.

Sorry having trouble testing. I'm using linux so maybe someone who knows linux could help me. Is this the right input?

Code: [Select]
flac -t [INPUTFILE [~/Music/Phish/Farmhouse/01.\ Farmhouse.flac]]

I'm getting

Code: [Select]
flac 1.2.1, Copyright (C) 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2007  Josh Coalson
flac comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.  This is free software, and you are
welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions.  Type `flac' for details.

[INPUTFILE: ERROR initializing decoder
            init status = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_INIT_STATUS_ERROR_OPENING_FILE

An error occurred opening the input file; it is likely that it does not exist
or is not readable.

01. Farmhouse.flac]]: ERROR initializing decoder
                      init status = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_INIT_STATUS_ERROR_OPENING_FILE

An error occurred opening the input file; it is likely that it does not exist
or is not readable.

every time. For example The file that was used for these is working in Rockbox but I'm getting the same thing for all my files, working or not

okay the help tag was confusing

Code: [Select]
flac -t ~/Music/The\ Strokes/Angles/09\ Metabolism.flac

flac 1.2.1, Copyright (C) 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2007  Josh Coalson
flac comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.  This is free software, and you are
welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions.  Type `flac' for details.

09 Metabolism.flac: *** Got error code 0:FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_ERROR_STATUS_LOST_SYNC
09 Metabolism.flac: *** Got error code 0:FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_ERROR_STATUS_LOST_SYNC

09 Metabolism.flac: ERROR while decoding data
                    state = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_READ_FRAME

So there's an output from one that doesn't work on Rockbox. What I don't understand is why everything else can read it if the file is messed up. Any tips for recovering the files or tweaking the firmware to adapt?

If you have some other software that can decode the file, use it to reencode it to flac and hope that no data was corrupted.
