Sansa clip+ problem with latest releases
« on: August 25, 2011, 09:38:47 PM »
Hi,

I was running 3.7 firmware on my sansa clip+ and experienced sometimes freezing device during playback so I decided upgrade.
Booting 3.9 firmware, but only asterisk appears after restart ... pressing any button make system rebooting ... again just "*" (no any menu).
I tried 3.8.1 ... endless scanning for files ... menu never appears.
Finally 3.7.1 make things works ... not tested long enough to know if occasional freezes disappeared.

(manual installation - linux)

best regards

mira

Did you update the bootloader or just the rockbox.zip when you updated to 3.9?

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

Try reformatting the disk from the sandisk firmware.  Its possible the file system is corrupted.

3.7 might be more tolerant of a broken file system because back then we didn't have dircache on by default ( you had to actually turn it on in the settings menu).

Reformatting helps! :)

Thank you! I am now running 3.9 withouth any problems.

BTW for what is dircache good, should I have it on?

It speeds up access to the file system by saving reads to the flash memory.  Yes you should probably leave it on.
