I would say that if you are buying a drive that you will not be able to return/refund/exchange then...don't do it, pretty much. There's no guarantee it will work, at all. There's not even any guarantee that the information listed in the wiki still holds true.
For example, the drive may be badged the same as it was when the information was added to the wiki but the internals may have been changed, or components substituted which might mean that a drive that was compatible with <arbitrary device> at the time of testing is no longer compatible.
The details that are (Or were, rather. At the time it was written) known about these drives and their compatibility with <arbitrary device> is listed on the wiki.
