IRiver ihp - 120 & 140 Rockbox installation

I'm a complete novice to this and have tried to install rockbox firstly on my ihp-120,when i have confidence i will do so on my ihp-140.

Basically i tried the auto install to no avail.

is there a idiots guide to doing this because i am sure there are many people out there like me who are not techhies but would love to have Rockbox on their mp3 players.

please help

This "description" doesn't give anyone a clue on what your actual problem is, what you did and what you didn't. Therefore it's impossible to help you unless you do your homework and describe your problem in detail -- including what exactly you did, which error messages you saw and so on.

Writing detailed problem descriptions is completely unrelated to being "techhies" or not.

okay ,sorry about that. Where i am reaching a dead end is when I am required to upload/find the bootloader for the i-hp120 , i'm required to provide a original firmware file(.hex) ,can you give me some guidance where i can obtain /find this .hex file please ?.

Which, by the way, is explained and linked in our manual:

Rockbox Utility will ask you for a compatible copy of the original firmware. This is because for legal reasons we cannot distribute the bootloader directly. Instead, we have to patch the Iriver firmware with the Rockbox bootloader.

Download a supported version of the Iriver firmware for your Iriver iHP100, iHP115, iHP120, iHP140, H120 and H140 from the Iriver website, links can be found on IriverBoot.

You already got a link to the manual and Rockbox Utility shows a link to the correct page as well. Please do your homework first and read the actual error messages / program dialogs. They have been put there for a reason.

Many thanks for the pointers gentlemen.

However,the install is way too complicated and having seen the various disclaimers in RED TYPE on the website i have decided to call a halt on the install which is a shame really because the Rockbox software appears to be superior to the standard I-River package, also i was mildly put off by the attitude of a developer who seems to think that everybody will be on his 'level' straight away,not everybody is a software developer matey!!!  .

Well it's a case of 'if it ain't broke,don't try to fix it' for me, I have a ihp 120 and 140 which both work perfectly and have done so for many years,why take the risk of losing it all.
