Some playlist files don't play from there
« on: August 14, 2011, 03:50:09 PM »
I'm running Rockbox (archive version) on a Sansa Clip+.  I have a playlist file Play1.  If I attempt to play the first (or any) track on Play1 either via Playlist Catalogue or via Files / Playlists, I get a brief flash of text and then get bounced back to Play1. As well as I can make it out, the text is something like this:
   (root)
   ---
   Next
However, I can play that track well enough from the Files menu.  Its title appears correctly in the Play1 list that I get to from Playlist Catalog.  Furthermore, there are some other sequences of tracks that do display and play correctly from playlists.

I've also tried reverting to 3.9.  I get the same behavior, except the briefly displayed text seems to have (MUSIC) instead of (root).

What's going on?

Sounds like a broken path in your playlist file.

Broken path?
« Reply #2 on: August 14, 2011, 05:31:26 PM »
I thought it might be something like that, but the fact that the track titles display properly seems to indicate otherwise.  If I click on the track title, I get the mysterious 3-line flash.

If, despite that, you still think the problem might be a broken path, where should I look for it?

I may have found the problem, though not the cure.  I'm using Amarok under Kubuntu to construct my playlists.  Apparently the track titles as listed by Amarok are in some subtle way different from the ones that Rockbox is expecting.  I tried an experiment of modifying one of the names in the playlist slightly, and the modification showed up in Rockbox's listing.  The problem I now have is to discover what causes the difference and how I can repair it.
