I open with them with a hex editor and flip through the file until I find tags.

OxonOwl:
OK i have a file open with a Hex editor and I have searched for ID3 but I can't tell whether they are tags or not.

Assuming you're still committed to fixing this file without accepting any help at all, you can find a specification for various tag formats on google.

Alternatively, if you use a decent tag editing program (of which google can provide many) then it ought to be able to tell you the format of the tags.

Vorbis files should use vorbis comments, not id3 tags.

I have accepted the little help that has been given. It seems a bit pointless having a forum where you hope to get questions answered when the suggestion is to google it

Thanks

I have looked at couple that didn't actually state what type the tags were. I am currently looking at something called Ultra Tag Editor. It is still not very clear whether there are ID3 tags.

There options to clear ID3v1 and ID3v2. ID3v1 sits and doesn't seem to do anything. ID3v2 flashes a dialog very quickly as if it has nothing to do.

This makes no difference to the playability under Rockbox

Google provides many indeed. Are then any you would recommend?
