Unable to remove. iPod Nano 2g Stuck! Can't load rockbox.ipod:
« on: August 02, 2011, 12:49:36 PM »
I have searched this whole forum and people have the " Can't load rockbox.ipod: issue but still could not find the exact solution to my ipod..

I installed Rockbox utility to my iPod Nano (2nd gen) (the complete install). Then I tried to removed it, but the Rockbox utilty said " Cannot uninstall bootloader, its verison is unknown"

Now my iPod is stuck to a screen saying

Rockbox boot loader
Version: 1.0
Loading Rockbox...
Error!
Can't load rockbox.ipod:
File not found
Hold MENU+SELECT to reboot
then SELECT+PLAY for disk mode

when I press Menu+select, the ipod restarts and Apple logo appears, but with Select+play I am unable to put my ipod into disk mode. and then Ipod comes again to that screen saying the error above.

Moreover computer does not detect ipod when I attach it via USB. so

Now tell me what to do? I neither can use Rockbox nor Official iPod firmware, its just stuck to one screen...

Please help me...
Thanks in advance for assistance

Press and hold SELECT+PLAY until you get the disk mode. From there, complete the Rockbox installation (the bootloader is installed but the main Rockbox files are missing), or uninstall the bootloader to get back to a factory-state iPod bootloader.

If holding select and play doesn't work you are probably not doing it quickly enough. You need to start pressing it *immediately* after it restarts, and you must not be pressing any other buttons at the same time.

Alternatively, you could make sure the iPod is powered off, then press any of the buttons on the clickwheel to wake the device, and then switch the hold switch on immediately.
This should boot the OF*.

*EDIT: As long as you're using the Rockbox bootloader and not iLoader/emBIOS/emCORE, if you are you'll be greated with a recovery console.
EDIT2: But if you were using any of those, and not the Rockbox bootloader you could boot into diskmode directly from the handy menu, so I guess you're not (So...I fail ;) )

I have tried a lot of times to put iPod in disk mode but all in vain.

Actually before installing rock box, my original iPod firmware was frozen, it was allowing me to reset but even after resetting it was frozen (unable to scroll, select or do anything)  that is why I moved to rockbox..

Now I think why my ipod is not able to get into disk mode has to do with some prior problem it had..

I shall be grateful to all of you if you tell me any way to install the original firmware on it via any means ( since my ipod is not detectable by PC via USB) so wat else I can do now???

Thanks alot

If you can't boot into Disk Mode it is likely that your iPod is suffering from some kind of hardware failure.

IMHO it is a problem with software not being able to detect the keys and clickwheel, hence why you can't select or scroll in the original firmware (and if Rockbox worked, you couldn't either). IIRC there have been other people with similar symptoms in this forum.

The Menu+Select reset works because it's not done through software, it's hardwired to the power management module (I think). Play+Select (to access disk mode) is done through software (the bootloader), and it doesn't work.

So basically, your iPod is defective. If I'm correct and this is a problem in the clickwheel, you could disassemble the iPod (take the main board out, disconnecting it form piezo and clickwheel) and put everything back together (there are instructions to do this on the internet, just make sure to loose no screws like I did :) ) and hope it was just a connection problem between the clickwheel and the main board. If the problem persists, you could try replacing the clickwheel (I'm not sure how to take it out of the case, but it should be possible). And even if you replace the clickwheel and the problem still persists, you're out of luck, probably it's a failure in the main board... and then you'd better get a new iPod.

You mean hardware...

If it were software it could not possibly affect Rockbox *and* the OF.

Now that I think on it, the correct term in this case is 'an hardware problem that doesn't allow software to recognize the clickwheel, but still allows certain hardware (power management?) to recognize the Menu+Select key combination'.

It can just be (hopefully) the clickwheel disconnected or poorly connected to the main board. Even because the hold switch works (otherwise, how could s/he have booted into OF?).
