e270 WIPEOUT
« on: July 31, 2011, 08:08:53 PM »
I need to know how to delete flapping everything from my Sansa Sandisk e270 v1 and then install the rockbox firmware.

Tried to install rockbox, and when i start my device, it shows "Scanning disk..." and won't change.

my original firmware was burnt as hell, and did a lot of random erroneous stuff when i tried to use it . . .thought installing rockbox would bypass or eliminate whatever corrupted shite was on there, but now i can't even view it on the compy; when i try to uninstall rockbox from the device, it tells me the mountpoint does not exist, and when i try autodetect, the program crashes.

Please help!  Thank you.

Your sansa should be working properly prior to installation.  Try formatting the device from within Sansa's firmware.  It sounds like you might have file system corruption.  After that, I expect that installing Rockbox should work.

how do i format the device from within Sansa's firmware; especially since it doesn't appear as a drive when i plug it in?

Does the SanDisk firmware boot?  There should be an item under its System menu, if I recall correctly.

It doesn't seem to.  Like I said in the op, it shows a rockbox screen that says "Scanning disk...", and plugging it into the computer has no effect.

I'm also pretty sure it freezes at this point, because I have to "reset all" by holding the power button down in order to shut it off.

A badly corrupted file system can cause this.  You can reformat the file system using recovery mode:

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaE200Unbrick#Recovery_Mode

Note that using the Windows format tool in recovery mode will very nearly destroy your device, so you must follow those directions to format the player safely using its build in tool.

Ok, so I held |<< on startup, which booted the sandisk firmware after a bunch of text [black screen with white text "rockbox bootloader" &c.] from the rockbox firmware appeared, which then froze [on the sandisk firmware] with a green "Refresh Database" overlay.  I did another "reset all" by holding down the menu button, and turned it on normally, which caused the same rockbox screen to appear, which THEN changed into a white screen with text reading:

*PANIC*
Stkov main <0>

Neither firmware boot allows me to see the device when connected with USB.  I can, however, get to recovery mode by booting the sandisk firmware, whilst simultaneously switching the hold button and holding the record button.

As I said above, you probably need to reformat the player using recovery mode.

Ok, i already have an .mi4 file for my device which i obtained from the SanDisk forums, but the zip also included a .rom file called "BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom", which, according to the instructions, i should not copy.  i guess it's irrelevant, but i wonder what that file is?

another question, hopefully the last: to format, should i use a text file, or a file folder [i.e. sansa.fmt]?

Its a renamed mp3 file.

I've never done this, but since it says file, I would not risk creating a folder.  Probably best to trust the instructions here.
