PictureFlow doesn't show covers on Sansa Clip+
« on: July 31, 2011, 02:38:59 PM »
To add images to your music files (flac) I used a program AIMP 2 (http://www.aimp.ru/index.php). Image format is jpeg (500 x 500 pixels). But in the program covers still displayed boxes with questions. What am I doing wrong?

I think monochrome displays don't have coverart enabled.

Hey iluxa,

do you mean, you use embedded album art with your files? I am not sure, but I think pictureflow doesn't support embedded album art. If you put a picture in the format folder.jpg in every folder you have music in, then your clip+ will after rebuilding your cache show the picture when using picture flow . But on an display like the clip+ (at least on my clipv2) this isn't that exciting, but it shows how capable rockbox is, by managing to display recognizeable pictures on a screen like that.

Hope you get it to work an can enjoy your rockboxed clip+

Greetings,

Do you mean that the name of the picture must match the name of the folder?

No, he's right. The pictureflow plugin can display album art (but it doesn't support embedded album art), but the while playing screen will not display album art, no matter what you do; it's not supported on monochrome displays.

Don't use embedded album art, since pictureflow doesn't support it. Use the other method instead.

Hey iluxa,

try using a sane folder structure (e.g. one folder per album) and put a folder.jpg file, which is the scan of the CD cover into that folder. Be sure, that every file from the same album has the same album tag and also be sure to have jpg-files which are not progressive jpg-files. Rockbox doesn't support progressive jpgs.

If you have loose files from different albums with different album tags in a folder, pictureflow will create several "slides" for that specific folder, but it will use the same Folder.jpg-file as album art for those files. For albums, that consist of more than one CD be sure to tag every file with the right position in the media set (e.g. CD1 of 2, CD2 of 2, so that after track one from CD1 there is track2 from CD1 shown and not track 1 from CD2... refer to your id3-tag editor for propper tagging).

After you have a nice folder structure and the right Folder.jpg's in the correspondent folders, update your database and let pictureflow rebuild the cache.

Hope that was helpful.

Greetings

This should probably be filed as a bug against the manual.

The Pictureflow manual entry links to the album art manual entry (which describes how to name images) but the album art manual entry is non-existent for the Clip+ (all monochrome targets?).

To directly answer the question on file naming see any one of the other manuals, for example:
http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildap3.html#x18-395000C.21

I'm not sure if the PictureFlow entry should be amended to include file naming conventions for monochrome targets or whether the Album Art entry should be built for monochrome targets while disclaiming the fact Album Art in the WPS is not available.  I rather suspect the former.

The "where to put the album art" entry is there for all targets that have album art in core - so missing for all monochrome targets - and as long as it stays in the WPS section that makes sense.

Although... (sorry a bit off-topic)... I always thought it could be nice for people interested in writing their themes for more than one target to have a list of all tags and just a marker if it's available for the specific target's manual they are reading. The CustomWPS page also doesn't make any distinction. Quite a bit of time consuming work though  :-\

So then I see two options.
1 - Make an exception for monochrome targets and put the "where to put album art" section under PictureFlow for them.
2 - Move "where to put album art" to its own section.  (12.x ?) and link to there from both Album Art and Picture Flow?
