Getting USB to pop up while in Rockbox
« on: July 25, 2011, 11:35:26 PM »
Hey guys,

I have a Clip+. And unfortunately I've ran into a problem with the device freezing in the Refresh Media screen. I guess this has to do with a tag problem, which doesn't make sense as I strip every single album and retag the tracks before I put it on the device. But whatever. I've learned to deal with this problem. My Cowon had issues with tags, and now the Sansa has shown it has a problem too(in fact the only device that never gave me issues with tags is my Zune).

But anyways, the Clip works perfectly with Rockbox. But the only problem is, is when I plug the device into the computer to charge it or to add more music, the Clip tries to refresh itself. And of course, it freezes.

I know that you can turn on the device, and while it's booted in the Rockbox firmware you can plug it into the computer to let it charge(and listen to it and the sametime, something you can't do with the OF). But the only problem is my folders won't pop up when I do this. So is there anyway to get my folders to pop up when I have it plugged into the computer with Rockbox running? This way I can totally bypass the OF for everything.

Thanks for any help.

We don't have USB support for the Clip+:

Thanks saratoga.

Is this something that you devs are working on, or something that isn't possible on the Clip+?

On a sidenote, I found out what was causing the hang on the Refresh screen of the OF. I convert all my music from FLAC to Vorbis. And one album didn't convert fully, so the Sansa was hanging up on that. Once I deleted that album the device refreshed fine.

So eventhough I really don't need Rockbox USB support right now, it would still be great to have so I(along with everyone else that uses Rockbox on the Clip) could bypass everything about the OF.

Anyways, thanks again for answering my question.

I clicked it in your last post. But I didn't see anything about USB(although I'm usually blind when it comes to searching). I just Ctrl+F'd USB and found what you're talking about. :)

According to that it seems that the USB patch works fine in Linux, which I'm using. So if I can figure out how to apply the patch(I really don't see any instructions on this, maybe something in the manual though) to my Rockbox then I'll give it a try and see how it works.

Thanks.
