Ipod 4th Gen Grayscale won't power off
tp11:
I just installed 3.9 and cannot figure out how to turn the device off. Pressing play button does nothing and select + menu reboots the device. Idle poweroff doesn't seem to do anything.
Chronon:
Did you try holding Play? Idle power-off should work. Might you have done something to interrupt the idle period? If it really can't turn off, it might be the same sort of problem as here:

Holding the play doesn't work. Looks like the ipod was on the whole night: the battery was fully charged when I posted my first message, now it has only couple of percent left.
I have used Rockbox successfully on this same ipod about a year ago, it is the latest version that does not work.
Post Merge: July 21, 2011, 04:26:58 AMI tried the latest from SVN, still no power off. I wish there was a menu item called "Shut down".
torne:
This is almost certainly a hardware fault as described in the thread Chronon linked to; a shutdown menu option will not help you. The ipod cannot power off if it is receiving power from the dock connector, or *thinks* it is because of a shorted pin or other hardware failure in the charging circuitry.
tp11:
Ok, I'll try with the Apple firmware.
EDIT: Is the shutdown same in Rockbox as in official iPod firmware as in it is not a real shutdown but the device goes to idle mode.
