Ipod nano 1st gen rockbox
(1/1)
mihirbhatt77:
Hello,
i have a ipod nano 1st gen, very old but was working fine till i heard about rockbox. I decided to install it on my ipod a few years ago. Then some part of the installtion messed it up. Now i have found it again and thought whether i could fix it.
The problem is that it comes up with a white screen saying' use itunes to restore' in 4 different languages (including english).
then i do restore the ipod and it then says 'do not disconnect' or 'ok to disconnet'
but doesnt not go back to normal ipod funtion or rockox function. It jus stays at the same screens.
Pleasee helppp :D
Much apprectiated :)

mihirbhatt77,
At this point, it doesn't really have anything to do with Rockbox at all...
The fault is either with your device, your operating system, or your iTunes installation.
The one thing I can suggest in this case would be to attempt to reset the device manually*(1) after restoring the device with iTunes and safely ejecting the device*(2).
*(1): using the hardware key combination of Menu+Select.
*(2): it is very important to always safely remove the device from your computer, as opposed to just unplugging it.

i have already done this :(
i restored, restarted. Iv done almost everything i can think of.
and then it came to my mind that i could write a post on your forum and see whether someone could help me with a solution.
Is there any way of sorting it out?
Chronon:
If you have restored then any problems you are seeing have nothing to do with Rockbox. According to your description, there doesn't seem to be any evidence of the Rockbox bootloader, so I assume this is the case.
Restoring the iPod should write a new partition table, format the data partition and write a known good Apple firmware to the firmware partition. If you have problems after properly completing this procedure then I would tend to think the problems are hardware related.
gbl08ma:
Perhaps the memory chip of the iPod has too much bad blocks, including on the OF partition, blocking the OF from starting properly. If this is the case, I don't think there's any solution other than replacing the memory chip, something that might not be worth the work and money and might even be impossible (I don't know how the memory chip is connected in 1st gen nanos).
I recommend however that you restore the iPod again and make sure you safely eject it before disconnecting, even if you have done that, there's still a chance the restore wasn't done properly the first time (perhaps you disconnected without iTunes saying it was safe to disconnect?).
