Ipod not found
« on: June 28, 2011, 11:43:56 AM »
Hey there guys,

My ipod is a 5.5g model.
EDIT: It is actually an Ipod NANO 5th generation

My issue is that while both my computer & itunes CAN find my ipod, but IpodPatcher and RockBox Utility cannot.

Yes, I am an Admin.
Yes, I have used "Run as Administrator".
Yes, "Enable disk use" is ON.

Please help me, I have no idea what to do next, and I have done so many searches to try and fix my problem, but I'm still stuck...

What does the Help / Troubleshooting / System Info dialog of Rockbox Utility tell (with the Ipod attached)?

That product ID looks like a 5th generation Nano, not a 5.5g iPod.  I believe the product ID for a 5g/5.5g iPod should be 1209.  Are you sure this a 5th generation iPod?

Definatly, I know when I reset the Ipod I got a message saying that it was 5.0 or 5.5, thought it was .5 though.

Please check this page and verify that you have a 5g or 5.5g* iPod  (not a 5g iPod Nano).
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353

*: The model we call the 5.5g iPod is what Apple refers to as the "iPod (5th generation Late 2006)" on that page.

...... So it doesnt work on the ipod nano 5g? thats just great, I thought 'ipod 5g' was the same as an ipod nano -.-"

Just hope there would be more distinction with the nano, seeing as i thought 'ipod 5g' was just shortenning...

Thanks for trying to help guys, looks like I cant get what I want afterall ;___;

The front page: http://www.rockbox.org
clearly lists the first and second generation Nanos as being supported (and distinct from the plain iPods of various generations).  Unfortunately, Rockbox does not currently run on this hardware.

Even still, I wanted to try and get Rockbox onto my ipod so that I may play Gba/GBC/GB games on it.

I know I can do that on the pc with an emulator, but its not the same :/

We are not shortening the names of the players for a reason :) Anyway, Rockbox Utility can tell you that for a number of players based on their USB IDs. We didn't have the one for the Nano 5G yet, so it doesn't know about it. But since you reported it we can add this now :)
