Anybody done this successfully -> SSD in a Archos Jukebox Studio 20 (like a 64GB RunCore Pro IV 1.8" PATA ZIF SSD)? Along with Rockbox of course...  :)

As the Archos is built on a 2.5inch pata HD, it would be a lot simpler to replace that by a similar 2.5inch pata SSD.  And no, I haven't done it.

I am trying t replace my HD with a Transcend 64 gb TS64GSSD25-M.  It plugs in properly and I can connect it to Windows and partition it and format it fine.  I can use the Rockbox installation utility and it loads fine.  Once I unplug the Jukebox from the PC, the base system will operate properly, but will not access any files on the HD.

I have tried doing a 20 gb partition, tried using all available space for the partition and still no luck.  I tried cable select and master/single on the HD with no luck.  I used the latest version of Rockbox that loads from the installation utility.

Any clue on what to do next?

Thanks.

Completely reset HD.  Ensured jumper was set to Master (it would work in Windows set to CS but would not boot the Jukebox Firmware).  Set a partition to 20 gb and formatted to Fat32.  Loaded the latest Rockbox with the installer and selected the preloaded theme.  Copied one mp3 over and reinitialized the DB. Rebooted.

Jukebox works!  Wished I could utilize the full 64 gb.

Several years ago I researched replacing the original with a larger HD.  The article stated that the Archos Jukebox would only recognize up to a 20 gb partition and that you would have to use the rest of a larger HD as storage only and would not be able to access it for mp3 playback.

Is this incorrect?  Has anyone been able to use a larger partition with the Archos Jukebox Studio 20?  If so, what size was the partition and what was the file system formatted as?

Thanks.

Shannon,  How are the battery times?  You ever able to reformat for the whole 64GB?

I've got a Recorder (v1) 20, a wild hair, and I'm looking hard at an OWC 120GB Mercury Legacy Pro SSD 2.5" IDE/ATA (PATA) 9.5mm Solid State Drive.

Honestly, this project has been put on the back burner.  I have not done any real testing since the single mp3.  I will try to fully charge the jukebox today and maybe let it run tomorrow and record the results for you.
