Fuze V2 Wheel Freeze

(1/1)

pdrub:
Hi.
I am having the Wheel on Fuze V2 frequently freeze on start up. The Home button works, but the wheel won't react. The directional presses (up down left right) on the wheel seem to work, but not scrolling. Now, it can start reacting if, for example, I go into Recent Bookmarks and start a song and stop it. Or it might not help, randomly. Sometimes I just turn off -on several times and it starts reacting.
Running 3.8.1, but had the same issue in the previous version too.
The Fuze itself is V2 8GB with a 16Gb micro SD Card.
Appreciate any help.

Chronon:
It sounds like a hardware issue.  Can you take it apart and clean the contacts?  I have had some success cleaning the contacts on an e200.

pdrub:
Thanks for the reply. The only reason I doubt it is a hardware issue is that going into Recent Bookmarks, starting a song and then stopping it solves the problem more often than not - something like 90% of the cases. Which would be strange is the issue were just some dirty contacts. Still looks to me like a firmware glitch, but then it is also highly suspicious that only I would have it. :)

Chronon:
That is strange.  If it's a hardware issue then I would expect there to be some problems for the original firmware as well.  It would be helpful to see if the OF functions normally or not.

Settings also vary from player to player, so this might be an explanation for behavior that isn't widespread.  You could try saving your current settings then resetting to defaults to see if anything changes.  (I don't have any strong reason to suspect this will help, but it's something to try.)

Pdrub, I hope this doesn't derail your thread...

I also have a Fuze V2 and I have also been having problems with the wheel freezing.  However I have been using the Sansa firmware (which suggests that both of us have a hardware issue).  In my opinion, the apparent success of the Recent Bookmarks > Start > Stop procedure is probably just superstition.  For me, what seemed to work is holding down the left and right sides of the wheel at the same time.  Once I found something which seemed to work I didn't spend much time trying other key combinations (due to my own confirmation bias).  The wheel now does not work under any conditions.

I'm completely new to Rockbox.  What would I need to do to remap all of the scroll wheel functions to button presses on the upper and lower parts of the wheel?  A person had with a similar problem with an e280:

The solution given was to edit the source code and compile a modified build.  It will be 4+ weeks before I have time to undertake such a project.  Is there any fuze V2 source code with the desired modification already available?  Are there other solutions which I may be overlooking?
