problems with accents (and utf8)
« on: June 15, 2011, 12:32:32 PM »
Hello,

Don't know why but I have problems with some (but not all) songs. On my PC all is correct but on my Iaudio X5 some song (in fact all songs of some albums) and the album title are not displyed with the accents. The problem is only in the tags, not in the album name, and with other theme or fonts it's still the same. All I get are squares instead of the letters.

Otherwise I loaded some russian music, file names and tags written in russian and nothing appears, neither in the file browser not the tag browser.

I set the font to utf8 however, so can't understand.

Thanks for your help.

What file type are your files? Did you check the codepage setting? Do you have a current build and fonts installed?

file type: mp3
codepage setting: where can I check this?
Rockbox installed with RockboxUtility-v1.2.10 2 days ago on a Iaudio X5L

Anyway as I wrote I tested the same files on iaudiox5-sim-w32 (downloaded about 10 days ago) and no problems, so it can't be due to the file.

I disagree with that. ID3 tags in MP3 files don't have any information about the codepage used, so it's possible that the player uses a different codepage settings than the simulator. Which could result in that behaviour.

Check the Settings / General Settings / Display / Default Codepage. I think this defaults to Latin1, and Latin1 does not include cyrillic characters.

found the codepage setting, it is utf8

result of some other tests

if i choose latin1 instead of unicode the accents are displayed for all the albums

if i choose unicode some are displayed but not others

i finally overwrote the tags with three differents programms before finding one that can do it properly, and now i have all the accents. Can't understand why, as any other programm was able to read the tags before changing... Ther must be a problem somewhere.

for the russian and greek tags they are  finally displayed if i change the font. For the moment only nimbus displays both languages, but it doesn't fit all my themes

Thanks for your answers
