APE decoder bug? Random loud noise
(1/1)
da_unique:
Been using rockbox since some days on my sandisk clip+, and I am having problems playing APE files.
The files are encoded using "high" setting, and during the playback sometimes semi-randomly I get only loud noise and no music.
Because sometimes when i reverse 10 seconds, and replay the "damaged part" I get the exact same problem.
While in other times, in same file, it suddenly works fine. (perhaps it depends how much i reverse..)
Seems like a bug in the APE decoder to me, or might there be some other cause/solution?
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a bug. File a bug report with the a link to the sample and the where in the file it happens.

Ok, the problem is I am having it in a 300 meg APE file.
And then not at set times, but seemingly randomly. Sometimes it reproduces and sometimes it does not.
So it is hard to share a "sample".
I will load some more single track ape files and hope to find the problem there as well.
Otherwise it will be really hard to debug.
Best regards and thanks for this project

Here is the bug that I experienced a while ago http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/11897 but that was always reproducible at specific places. There is an utility `demac` available from source code. I'd suggest to check if it unpacks your APE okay. I find it helpful, but I'm not sure about rewinding though if it is the only case when it happens.
I used to listen to APE+CUE as well, but support for CUE sheets is not that good, so I personally prefer recently to recode in single track FLACs. Besides having no problems with CUE, FLACs are less CPU-intensive comparing to APEs.
