[SOLVED] Sansa Fuzev1 Not Booting
« on: June 10, 2011, 11:50:33 AM »
Hello all, new to this forum.  I have a Fuzev1 that I've been using RB on for about 3 months.  I recently reformatted the disk and used the RB Utility to install 3.8.1.  Since then I have had problems getting the Fuze to accept file transfers.  It will switch to read-only after it has been plugged into the USB for ~5-10 seconds.  I've tried two different Linux Distros as well as XP.  Now, this morning it stopped booting.  When it's switched on it says Scanning disk... then after about 15 seconds it goes white and says ANIC*  kov main.  I'm guessing that there's two characters on the left getting cut off and it should read *PANIC* stkov main.  The computers won't recognize it and I can't get it to boot at all.  Is this player bricked, or is there something I can do to fix this?

Thanks for any help anybody can offer.  Sorry for the wall of text, but I wanted to get all the information possible out there.

I would suggest checking the disk for filesystem corruption.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

How do I do that if the computer is not recognizing the player?

You can hold a button during booting to make it boot into the original firmware. Then should be able to access the Fuze again over USB. The user manual tells which button to hold during booting.

Brilliant!

Thanks a ton.  May seem real simple to you folks, but I did actually look for a while before posting and I was hitting dead ends.

I really appreciate your work and your taking the time to help me out.

Did that actually fix it for you? I had exactly the same thing happening, intermittent trouble writting over a period of time, a reinstall, and later, that white screen of death.

I booted the Sansa firmware by holding down the RWD button, but that only goes for a little while and then it says "writing" and it hangs. Tried it many times, hoping something might change but I can find a way around it. I hope it isn't bricked, It is only about 6 months old, but I am already looking around for a new one, anything but iPod and anything but sansa.

I was able to format and reinstall Rockbox.  It still hangs when I write to it most of the time.  Once in a while it'll work.  I've been having too much trouble with it to make it worthwhile.  I have two other Sansa players that work perfectly, so this one just stays plugged into my USB port and I'm using it in multimedia mode to control my music on the computer.

I was having trouble with this player before I Rockboxed it (that's why I flashed it in the first place), so I can't say it's Rockboxes fault.  I was just hoping that with the new firmware it would extend the life a bit.  It was successful on that level until I tried putting a microsd card in the player, then it went back to it's old ways.
