Tip on player with extra GPIO

(1/1)

Hi,

I have a little project where I want to build my own mp3 based boom blaster. Previously I had the approach of using a PIC/AVR + MP3 decoder-chip but I would like to use some existing MP3 player for the fun of it.

So I am looking for a player where I can solder in some extra GPIO pins besides the usual stop/play/whatever.
These GPIO would be used to drive leds and read extra buttons (the boomblaster will be a bit different).

The plan is not to use the GUI in rockbox rather only use if for playback and get access to the HW platform of the player.
So I will need to modify/add to the FW in rockbox.

Anyone have a tip on good HW platform?

I think the Gigabeat F has GPIO pins on its dock connector.  That might be a good choice.

You might want to check out the Lyre project: http://lyre.sourceforge.net/

Hi,

I turns out that I have an Ipod Nano 2nd generation that I can slaughter and do whatever I want to.

Anyone have a tip on how I can get some extra GPIO pins?

I want to have some extra buttons and LEDs.
