charging the ipod classic 7g

Is there a trick that I am missing to getting the april 24th build from .freemyipod.org to charge? Anytime I connect it to a charge only cable, it thinks it is connecting to a computer, displays the usb connected to computer logo and I don't think it is charging from there.

Also, are there newer builds of rockbox available for this model? svn builds?

The manual for ipod video will be more or less the same for the classic I'd imagine. The USB charging works anyway as I've used it.

With a more recent rockbox version, even when I hold down a button while plugging it into a power only adapter, it still seems to try to go into usb mode, showing the icon but not charging from it. Can anybody familiar with the ipod classic tell me if it charges when it is turned off, or if emcore can charge it or at least use the external power instead of the battery?
