Ipod Classic Timeline?

(1/1)

kaspr007:
Hello all,

I realize that the classic is not supported, but could someone point me to more information on how the work is progressing?  I have an Ipod classic 2g 120gig that I would like to switch over to rockbox.

Thanks,
Kaspr

iPod Classic Port

EDIT: By the way, there is no "timeline" as such, and none will ever be given.
Releases for new ports can't be, and won't be, given projected time frames. This is due to the unpredictable nature of reverse engineering the hardware, and the fact that Rockbox is an entirely volunteer effort.
A bump in the road may be hit tomorrow that completely stalls development and halts the port from becoming stable forever more.
The lead developer could be hit by a bus (let's hope not, though, Michael ;)).
There's simply too many variables.

EDIT 2: The Classic *does* have a functional port, though...however, you'll need to head over to the freemyipod project for that.
In short:
Playback is functional, plugins are functional, there is no dual-boot, you'll completely lose the ability to use the original firmware and sync with iTunes, installation completely formats the device so you'll lose anything that isn't backed up, and at this point you may not be able to mount the device at all after installation.

The port in it's current state is aimed at advanced users and developers.
