player with no lights
« on: May 12, 2011, 08:16:17 AM »
Are there any players that have:
  • no lights: no lighted screen or backlit screen, no LEDs, no light on the AC adapter (if there is an AC adapter)
  • FM radio
  • speaker
If not, are there any at all with no lights?
Thanks.

It's difficult to find a player without a backlit screen, but I think the Archos players aren't backlit. I doubt I'm right on this one though.

The Archos Ondio SP is the only player that I can think of that will match the criteria of what the OP is looking for. The Ondios don't have a backlight built-in (AFAIK), the SP model has no FM radio, and only has a headphone jack.

While this is true, it's reasonably likely that the Ondio won't meet some of the unstated requirements.

Such as reasonable amounts of storage capacity. 128MB is barely much of anything nowadays.

I'm still wondering what's the original reason to look for a player without backlight. Is that really needed (and why) or is the real problem something else?

What about the Cowon M3?  Perhaps the user is concerned about battery power and desires a player that doesn't *have* to have a backlight to see the display (in a lighted environment).  Most monochromatic LCDs do not require a backlight to be usable.  Early ipod models would fall into that category.  The ipod Video (5.5g) is transflective in bright, outdoor light, but not so good with indoor lighting.

I was gonna say that too.  even includes fm radio... no speakers of course but that describes most players, RB or no.
