HD interface question

(1/1)

senordickey:
I'm the proud owner of a used Jukebox studio 20.  I'm planning to upgrade to a larger drive, and I had a few questions.  The links I've seen say that I need a 2.5" EIDE hard drive.  I'm pretty sure that ATA drives are backward compatable, but I want to be sure before I buy one.  Also, can I just start with Rockbox as my firmware, or do I have to install the original Archos firmware then upgrade to Rockbox?   Also, any reccomendations on HD models people have been happy with would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi senordickey

You do need an IDE drive, because the Jukebox has an IDE connector on the circuit-board where you insert the drive. Just about any 2.5" laptop drive will do.

You can either start with the orignal Archos firmware or overwrite the .mod file with the rockbox firmware. You can also flash your jukebox with rockbox. Detailed information on how to do so can be found on this site.

I'd go for a Toshiba drive. Look for one with little power consumption.
