delete songs directly through firmware
« on: April 28, 2011, 06:36:37 PM »
Pardon me if I'm posting in the wrong place and for my technological stupidity, but I am considering purchasing a new MP3 player, but I really want to have the ability to delete songs directly, or on the go or on the fly, because I feel it would be the most convenient way to customize a playlist.  Does rockbox offer this feature for all the current builds on this website?

Yes.  Feel free to search the manual if you want to know more.

Thanks Saratoga,

I checked in some of the manuals.  Now I just need to decide which MP3 player to get.  Does anyone happen to know which ones have long battery life and at least 8gb that have rockbox firmware available?  I suppose I could do a search for each one individually but that would take me a long time.

That'd be pretty much all supported players.  I'll just recommend the Clip+ then since its pretty easy to get.

okay, perhaps I should be more specific.  I am looking for the ones with the best battery life AND hard drive space...maybe  32gb and up

the sandisk sansa clip is only rated at 15 hours...i was hoping for at least double that....maybe i'm asking for too much

I'm pretty sure the Iaudio M5L is the winner in terms of battery life.

You can replace the stock HD for improved storage capacity.

Thanks Chronon,

There is no Iaudio M5L in the current builds listing.  Is it the same thing as the Iaudio m5?  I tried googling both names and could not find anyone selling these products nor even a price.  Does anyone know how to do this or even contact Cowon?

I think you have basically no hope finding an M5L at this point.

Why is it so hopeless to find an M5L?  Besides their worthless firmware, what do the manufacturers have to lose?  I have had a bit of difficulty finding any rockboxable MP3 player for sale.

Well, at least this availability issue narrows what I thought was an overwhelming selection.

Post Merge: April 30, 2011, 04:06:15 PM
so I think I've narrowed it down to two mp3 players:

Sandisk Sansa Clip+ 8gb, 15 hours battery for $39 free shipping

or

Sandisk Sansa Fuze+ 16 gb 24 hour battery for $69 free shipping

If this info was all I knew, I would go for the fuze, but many of the reviewers complain about its firmware and interface.  Does anyone know if rockbox  makes it a better choice?

Fuze+ is not supported at this time.  Someone is actively working on a port, but don't buy one and expect Rockbox to work on it at this time.

Go for a Fuze v1 or v2 if you want a Rockbox-able Fuze.

Thanks for the support everyone.  I ended up getting the Fuze, not the Fuze+.  It was much cheaper, especially since I got the 8gb version and an extra 8gb card to go with it.  Only $48 for pretty much the best MP3 player on the market as far as I know.   :)

Hopefully I can figure out how to delete.
