Database Committing and Scanning EVERYTIME I Boot

(1/1)

unity007:
Hello,

I am using rockbox version 3.8.1 on an ipod 5th generation.  I am running into an issue where every time my ipod boots up, it says "committing database 1/9" and proceeds to go through them all taking a few minutes before I can use my player.

I have auto-update under the database settings turned to off, so I'm at a loss as to what to do.  Any advice?  I also have no problem just using the file browser instead of the database if need be.

Thank you!

Chronon:
Does it complete the process and is the database usable afterward?  It sounds like it never completes, so every time you boot Rockbox keeps trying to commit.

unity007:
Hey thanks for getting back to me.  It will go to the menu after some time (usually 3 minutes or so), and then if I try to go to the database, it says "Database is not ready, Initialize Now?"

[Saint]:
The database is stalling, and never completing.

You can enable metadata logging in the debug menu to see exactly where it is stalling, it's usually files with exceptionally large embedded album art, or comments.

Thank you, I'll check it out. I actually hit OK to initialize (I was hoping not to have to do this, don't want to use the DB), just kept my ipod on for a good hour or so, and let it create the DB.  It doesn't SEEM to be scanning on bootup anymore, but I'll reply back if it does.

Not sure why it was trying to create the DB in the first place, when I never really initialized it.
