Rockbox corrupted Clip+'s OF
« on: April 23, 2011, 02:59:07 PM »
First it got very very slow ,than it hang up for a few times, and now it wont even
start booting. :'(

I tried to format it ,but when connected to PC it  says that formation cant be done. and shows the size as 3.6mb only.

Is it possible to reinstall player if the OF is corrupted?

Yes. You only need to use dd and fdisk, so any Linux distro should work even if running from a pendrive (the only major difference in pendrives is the persistency filesystem which doesn't matter in any way here).

Make sure you know what device your player gets recognized as when connecting it, should you end up dd'ing your hard drive (which is almost like formatting it)! If you could, I'd suggest that you take all the pendrives out and even the hard disk, as you only need the pendrive to run Ubuntu ;)

(BTW, if you carefully look at the list fdisk returns and search for the partition mentioned in the wiki, you won't end up dd'ing anything you shouldn't. But take care anyways ;) )

it says

Execute "sudo fdisk -l". It should report a drive without partitions, with a size of 979.75MB (approximately, there is some 1000/1024 Bytes rounding

I've got 32 mb one. does that depends on player?

i'm also not shure about this command
dd if=orig_image.bin of=/dev/sde (replace orig_image.bin and sde with the actual filename and drive)

can I just write in name of the bin file or i have to specify location of it?

I'm not aware of any Clip with 32MB of internal storage.

Be sure of the location of the .bin file and the storage device you're writing to before issuing the "dd" command.
