ipod nano 1st generation will not skip
« on: April 23, 2011, 02:15:16 PM »
I have an ipod nano 1st generation. I originally installed 3.7.1, but updated to 3.8.1 and still have the same problem.

It will not skip forwards or backwards. It will pause and fast forward/rewind. Also it will not resume from bookmarks. The bookmarks are there, but selecting them has no result

I have used Rockbox for years, and its fantastic. I have installed rockbox on ipod minis working fine, I just seem to have problems with this nano.

Thanks
Greg

You probably have "party mode" enabled or whatever its called where skipping is disabled.

no, I have checked and its not enabled. I made sure it was set to off, and it still does not skip.

You might also have this "prevent track skipping" option enabled (might be named slightly different, can't remember. Please check the manual for details)

If you still have problems it might be useful to see your configuration file -- /.rockbox/config.cfg

There's a rarely occurring, hard to reproduce bug where a configuration setting (such as Party Mode) is applied despite having been turned off.  To check whether you have been bitten by this bug, check whether a /.rockbox/nvram.bin file exists, and if so, move it away (keep a backup!) and check again.  Please don't delete the file to help reproducing this problem later on!

I was bitten by this bug once (see the two tracker comments starting here: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/11991#comment38873) but haven't been quick-witted enough to keep a copy of the offending file. :-(

Thanks for the help, but it does not seem to be either.  I checked "prevent track skipping" and it was off. I tried shifting the nram file to a temporary folder and then checked the settings, but both party mode and prevent track shipping were both off.

I realise I have not accurately described its behaviour on pressing forward skip. It does not skip but also it sets the track back to the beginning of the track.

The config.cfg is here:
Code: [Select]
# .cfg file created by rockbox 3.8.1 - http://www.rockbox.org

volume: -30
repeat: one
volume fade: off
scan min step: 25
follow playlist: on
autocreate bookmarks: on
autoload bookmarks: ask
use most-recent-bookmarks: on
pause on headphone unplug: pause
start in screen: bookmarks
resume rewind: 5

You have "repeat: one". Disable repeat.
