Sanza Fuze v2 DB build Freezes

My Sansa Fuze is freezing during database builds/updates if the SD card is inserted. If I pull the SD card, the DB build finishes fine.
 
Once the device freezes, I either need to do a hard power down or remove the SD card to make the device responsive again.

The SD card works fine with the original firmware and I'm able to browse and play media from the SD card using the 'Files' menu in RockBox.

The SD card is an 8GB Transcend and I'm running version r29744-110417 of Rockbox.

This problem started around version 3.8 or so. I first noticed it as random OS freezes and lock-ups but then noticed the DB issue when trying to re-initialize the DB for troubleshooting purposes.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I just did a chkdsk (came back clean) and I also reformatted the SD card a few days ago.
