large-capacity rockbox capable players

Sadly, my 240GB rockbox'd iPod seems to have not made it back from some recent travels.  I guarded this thing with my life for three years, and somehow lost it somewhere in Austin. 

Apparently RapidRepair is no longer selling these, so is are there any other alternatives with a similar capacity?  I could just suck it up and get a 160GB classic with crappy firmware, but after having 240 gigs with glorious Ogg Vorbis capabilities for so many years, going backwards will just depress me.  I imagine I'm screwed, but I figured it's worth asking.  Thanks!

You can always upgrade the stock HD in a supported player.

Right.  Are there any upgradable to 240 gigs?

I think most of the 240GB drives use a ZIF connector, so probably look for one that uses ZIF.

I notice it's missing the Gigabeat S, which also has a ZIF interface.

I'm also not sure of how up to date the list of HDs is.

Using the Gigabeat S with a drive larger than 128GiB is likely to be difficult and the workaround has not been confirmed to actually work, so it may not be the best recommendation.

You could just get an iPod Video and fit a 240GB drive; that's what RapidRepair were selling anyway.

Thanks for the clarification.  I was just mentioning it as a Rockbox-able player that has ZIF, but I guess it has some quirks that make installing a new HD non-trivial. 

This is moot from the standpoint of a recommendation, but for my own curiosity: Would imaging the original HD to the new one then modifying the MBR to reflect the actual size of the new HD work?

I had one from Ipodzens in '09. Once you get that 240 gigs with OGG capability, it's really tough to envision going to anything less.  Unfortunately both RapidRepair and Ipodzens seemed to have stopped stocking these. Not sure if it's temporary or not, that's why I was curious about other options.

Strange that no other company (Besides the inconsistent Archos line) seems to have any interest in catering to audiophiles or more hardcore listeners who'd need players larger than 32GB, since Apple has all but abandoned the classic as far as updates and new features.

Installing a new hard drive is trivial (I have a 120 GB in my S60), but the Toshiba bootloader won't accept anything over 128 GiB.

Rapidrepair just updated it's webpage and the 240GB HDD seems to be available again, but the price is now $349.99  ... The Cowon X5L will accept the Toshiba 240GB drive:

1) remove an extra battery OR
2) find longer screws and make a gasket to seal around the exposed area (I did this)

OR

1.8" ZIF SSD drive should work (but expensive) in either iPod Video or Cowon X5 (L).

It's a stripped down Archos Android tablet (Archos 48) with 4.8" screen and 500GB hard drive, 5.6" x 3.1" x 0.8", 10.1 oz, 128MB of ram, has wifi but no bluetooth.  Might be bigger than you really want.  I'd hope it can run the Rockbox Android app which is in progress.  But it left out some of the nicer hardware features of the smaller Archos 43 and larger Archos 70.

.... Hmm, on checking further, it looks like this is an older model (EARLIER than the 43 etc., runs (gak) Android 1.6) but it may still be of interest.  Otherwise, oh well.
