Fuze V2 Troubles I.E. Random freezing/not turning on occasionally
« on: April 13, 2011, 02:19:06 PM »
Well, I have been loving my rockbox'd Sansa Fuze for quite some time now. My Fuze has been acting rather quirky lately such as freezing in the middle of playback and saying playlist file invalid or just freezing causing me to have to hardboot off, then it will not turn on for a very long time of constantly trying to hard boot it off for a fresh startup. Sometimes it won't start up for a few days at a time, I think it may be hardware related though as I have dropped my player quite a few times and the casing is coming apart, the power button gets stuck occasionally, or the home button will get stuck. If you have any insight on to how to fix the problem, please do tell, I'm scared my player will shut off and never start again. :/

Quickedit: It has frozen and not turned on about 3 or four times already today, its on now, but I fear it will do it again.

Anotheredit: Also when I choose a playlist I.E. Play an album, when I go to my database to choose another album it says Database not ready, so when I initialize it its stays at 0 songs found. (This one isn't 24/7 yet happens frequently.)

What revision are you running and have you checked the disk for errors?

No, I haven't checked the disk. Is there a way to do this on rockbox? Because I cannot untill I get home again, which will be later. I do not know what revision, I know I am running v3.8.1 though. How would I check this?

No, you must check the disk using a PC utility when you get home.

Rockbox can't check the disk for errors as it would be useless, it'd consume too much resources and the battery would die before the whole disk could be check. Also, why would someone want to do it in Rockbox if it's something only done occasionally?

I remembered seeing a scan disk option or something in a build for Fuze v1 a while back, I dunno. How to check the revision though?

You must be confusing with the disktidy plugin, which allows you to delete junk files left by some file viewers and such.

I never heard of a scandisk feature in Rockbox and I don't think anybody implemented it at any time, because of what I said on my last post.

No, I am not confused with disktidy, I think it was called chkdisk or some shit, I do get high lots so my memory is kinda messed.. Also you did not answer the question, sorry for pestering.

Just got home, I will check the disk once it decides to turn on again. >.<

Edit: Okay, I error checked/fixed and manual installed the latest build for my fuze v2, will post if problems persist.

The problems are persisting, the player is not turning on right now, and before it said invalid playlist file -4 or some crap, so I hardbooted off, now won't turn on

Did the file system check out as clean after trying to clean errors the last time?

The player might be crashed.  If there's any sound when connecting/disconnecting the headphones then that would support this idea.  In any case, you can wait a few days for the battery to discharge and then charge the battery and see if it will start.

It checked out clean. And yeah, when its REALLY acting up I just discharge. Sometimes the player will freeze yet continue playback though. Other times everything will freeze though.  ???

Have you recharged it since letting the battery die?

There's also this:
