Not recognizing Sansa Clip+
« on: April 11, 2011, 05:42:13 PM »
I have a new Sansa Clip+, and I'm preparing to load Rockbox on it, but Rockbox Utility (1.2.8) doesn't recognize my Clip+.

If I try autodetecting, Rockbox Utility simply crashes.

Although the Sansa Clip+ shows up as a device in My Computer, it is not available if I Browse for my device. If I manually select the Clip+ and click OK, I get the error "Mountpoint does not exist".

Any ideas?

What drive letter does your clip have?  If the answer is "none", you probably skipped the USB mode step in the install directions.

Okay, after reading the FAQ I found out what I was doing wrong.

The Sansa Clip+ has its USB mode set to Autodetect by default, and Rockbox Utility requires MSC mode. I switched to MSC mode and Rockbox Utility identified it properly.

Perhaps it would be prudent to add some of the FAQs into Rockbox Utility as information messages? For example, if you select the Sansa Clip+ and Rockbox Utility doesn't find it as a drive letter, pop a message box reminding the user that they must go into settings and set the device into MSC mode.

So what's the problem with this? Rockbox Utility tells you to select the mountpoint yourself, why don't you simply do that? That's not an error. And it's not the original issue (where Rockbox Utility crashes according to the report).

i guess i don't know how to select the mount point. Just got a mac and still learning the ins and outs.

Edit: I select /volumes/SANSACLIPP in "select your device" drop down box. That is the only option that shows up, but when i press ok i get the error to select the mount point.

The OS you're using is important information since bugs can be specific to the OS Rockbox Utility is running on. The original problem reported is definitely not on OS X, since there is no "My Computer" in OS X.

Seems like you're hitting a bug that's been fixed already. Try a development version of Rockbox Utility. Or work around it by changing the mountpoint twice (the changing part is important -- you need to trigger a change event). If you need an additional drive to show up try a USB pen drive, or any other device that uses FAT formatting.

I am currently trying to install rock box manually but i get stuck after installing the .rockbox folder to the clip. I don't know how to run mkamsboot using terminal.

If you don't know how to use the terminal, then use the automatic install as suggested above.
