Can't get eSpeak TTS to Speak

(1/1)

seier:
Hi Gang,

I have a Sandisk Sansa Fuze v2 and the current version of the Rockbox utility 1.28.  I would like to use eSpeak or whichever TTS sounds the best.  I could really care less how long it takes to record so if someone can recommend the best sounding TTS I'd sure appreciate it.  That being said I have installed the current eSpeak off of SourceForge.net 1.45.03 and I can't make it work.  When I go into the Rockbox Utility it says:
Configure TTS Engine Configuration OK
Rockbox Speex Encoder Configuration OK

So one would assume it would work, but when I try to create the talk files it doesn't just do it automatically instead I see this window Titled: "SAPI5 TTSAPP" that contains a text box saying "Enter text you wish spoken here."  I have to assume something is not working right.  I'm not about to manually type each file name or anything.  I must be missing a step or setting in there somewhere.

Thanks,
Christian Blackburn

The voice Alex of OS X' TTS system. Not sure how that would help you though. Besides, considering a voice sounding good is (at least to some degree) subjective, so you might not like the voices I like. You might also want to check if you have the mbrola voices which are not part of the espeak package and, depending on what you consider "good" improve the output notably.

works for me so you definitely did something wrong.

I'm not about to guess what exactly you did to figure what went wrong. The point of Rockbox Utility is to have you do everything manually so ...

I think the RealSpeak voices sound a lot better. Not sure if they work with Rockbox tho. :/
