Ipod Classic 6g (thin) Screen

To start off I understand that this is an "unusable" port so far but..
I was just wondering about a behavior I saw.
My iPod's screen never actually turns off. I've tried waiting for it and using the lock but neither methods work.
It currently just turns the screen backlight way down, but in strong light the contents of the LCD is still visible.

I've checked the HW info and it says my LCD type is 1.

Is this behavior normal?
