Sansa Clip+ Theme: Pony

The purpose of this thread is a place to describe the theme in more detail and collect bug reports/ feature requests.

Theme page.

Icons.

Play mode: Stopped , playing , paused , fast forward , rewind , recording , recording paused , radio , radio paused .

Shuffle mode: On , off .

Repeat mode: Off , all , one , shuffle , a-b .

Power: Battery level , charging , charged/external power .

Screens.

Status Bar.

The status bar will change when 1 track playing, 2 FM playing, 3 recording.

Power, battery percentage charged or low battery (<10%) or sleep timer remaining or 1 track remaining or clock, volume , 1 repeat mode, shuffle mode or 2 signal strength* , (if tuned) stereo / mono or 3 currently recording , disc activity , play mode.

WPS.

If the current playlist is named, the following alternate details may be shown: 1 paused/ first 3 secs of track, 2 playing. If playlist is unnamed, 1 will always be shown.
3 Playlist position/ entries will only be shown if there's more than one item in the playlist.

Rows;

Top: Power, battery percentage charged or low battery (<10%) or sleep timer remaining or 1 playlist position/ entries 3 or 2 elapsed track time, volume , remaining track time/ textual volume, shuffle mode/ disc activity , play mode.
Progress bar .

Centre: artist or path[-2], album or path[-1], track title or filename

Bottom: 1 (year, codec, bitrate, replaygain mode [t=track, a=album, ts=track shuffle, as=album shuffle, no=no tag]) or 2 (playlist name, playlist position/ entries 3), repeat mode.

FMS.

Rows;

Top: Power, battery percentage charged or low battery (<10%) or preset preset id/ scan mode, volume , signal strength* , (if tuned) stereo / mono , disc activity , play mode (playing/ paused).
Progress bar (with upper/ lower frequencies) .

Bottom: Frequency, preset name.

• Recording screen shows a spool animation when the device is actually recording (thanks for the idea, FritoDude).
• WPS bottom row details field values temporarily left aligned until bug FS#12237 is fixed.
• When a sleep timer is active, show the time remaining in the top row, left field in SBS & WPS.
• Various tweaks & optimisations.

Thank you for a great theme. I'd like to request a change to the "Play Mode" icon display while on the recording screen.

I use the recording screen to dictate quick messages to myself while I'm bicycling. It is very difficult for me to quickly glance (on my Clip V2) at the screen to see if I'm  recording or not (with any theme). I modified your theme to so that the Recording icon in "Play Mode" functions like a recording light - it is present when recording and not present when stopped or paused. This completely fixes my difficulty in seeing if I'm recording or not. And it is easy to distinguish stopped & paused because recording time & file size are nonzero when paused. I think making this change to your theme (and making it conditional on the recording screen so as not to mess up Play Mode on other screens) would be useful to others.

Thanks for the feedback FritoDude. Your suggestion sounds like a good one and I was planning to release a new version of the theme soon anyway (alignment seems to be a bit off running on current revisions).

Would you mind waiting a few weeks though?

There's a couple of reasons; mainly I'm busy with something else at the moment, also there's a lot of changes going on with Rockbox at the moment, I wanted to wait until 3.10 had been released and settled down.

Uploaded version 1.8 - see top posting for changes.

FritoDude: I deviated slightly from your idea for the recording screen; I've kept the play mode icon being displayed (I thought it was useful to see whether it was stopped or paused), instead I've made a relatively large "spooling" icon which appears when the device is recording. Hope you find this as useful, let me know if it causes any problems.

Post Merge: November 22, 2011, 10:22:36 PMThat is a nice looking animation. I'll need to try out the theme while bike riding on a sunny day but my guess is that your change will make it pretty easy to see if the device is recording.  So, it looks like you've fixed the issue.

I probably still prefer the modification I made that just displays the recording icon when recording & nothing otherwise. Since I've cleared off the nearby status icons (except for the icon showing a write in progress),  that seems a bit easier to see than your new recording animation.  I'm not sure how my change fits the general look & feel of rockbox, though. Because the time & size on the recording screen are non-zero if the recording is paused & zero if stopped, I haven't gotten confused.

Anyway, I think your change will work fine. Thank you for all the work! :-)

I like this Theme very much.

It's used here on Sansa Clip v1 since Rockbox 3.10 and now with v3.13.
