I don't know how the rockbox firmware got onto my ipod, but I did not download or install it myself.  I would much prefer the original ipod firmware.  Nonetheless, it's installed on my ipod, and I am quite perplexed.  I do not know how to get it off.  I can't get my mac 10.4 to recognize it at all.  I would appreciate any advice you could give me.  Thanks.

Did you buy it second hand?  If so then the previous owner probably installed it and forgot to tell you about it.

Rockbox cannot install itself automatically.  You have to either download Rockbox Utility and ask it to install or go through the steps to manually install the bootloader and firmware yourself.

If you want to remove it, just put it into Disk Mode and use Rockbox Utility to uninstall.  There are instructions in the manual too.
