Metadata sorting?

Hey guys, got an iPod Mini here, and my friend has an identically configured one, with a question.

I have him setup (and my own) to use the File Browser, and not use the DB explicitly. He was wondering if Rockbox will use the metadata tags to sort the tracks by the track number in the tags, without using the DB system?

If any of this is unclear, please let me know, and I will pass along questions to my friend, and test them myself. He's not particularly technical, so he asked me. I found little in the manual, after reading through it, regarding this specific scenario.

Thanks for the seemingly unhelpful reply. I asked if it was possible to have Rockbox sort tracks via metadata outside of using the database. Whether this is an option somewhere or editing a file of the software.

Unless you are saying, very vaguely, that initializing the DB will do this, even if using the File Browser? Hm....

Did you click that link?  I think its pretty clear:

Rockbox lets you browse your music in either of two ways. The File Browser lets you navigate through the files and directories on your player, entering directories and executing the default action on each file. To help differentiate files, each file format is displayed with an icon.

The Database Browser, on the other hand, allows you to navigate through the music on your player using categories like album, artist, genre, etc.

Theres two options, by tags, or by folder.  You're asking if theres a third.  Having read that theres only two, what do you think the answer is

Well, I guess what I am asking, is if I can browse by folder, but using the tags to get a proper track listing. SO, files without the track number in the filename, but the track number in the tags, will that work? Or will it alphabetically sort the tracks?

This is not possible with the current rockbox implementation.

If you use the filebrowser: Yes.
