Music from Itunes randomly skipping to next tracks
« on: March 19, 2011, 07:20:40 PM »
After I downloaded rockbox 3.8, music from I bought from itunes would randomly skip at random intervals to the next song. I have tried re-uploading the songs on to the player but it still happens.
What could be wrong?

Help is appreciated.

Btw: I'm using a V1 sansa fuze.

Well, the problem still persists and now if the random skip doesn't happen, the player shuts it self off randomly and reboots.

I'm I right to assume there is currently no solution to this? cause there have been no replies.

I've got the same issue, but in my case, they're AAC files encoded with NeroAAC rather than from iTunes.

Sometimes it will play the entirety of 3 to 4 tracks, and sometimes it will skip to the next track after 2 to 3 seconds, several tracks in a row. As indicated by the OP, sometimes the player turns itself off after altogether.

Information which might be relevant or helpful:

Sansa Fuze V1 8GB with Rockbox 3.8.

When the skipping occurs, there is no pop or hiss or any unusual noise. It simply advances to the next track silently, and begins playing. Initially I thought it was perhaps a button issue, but it does this even when the buttons are locked. I also tried turning on "Disable Track Skip", but it had no change. Finally, I enabled the option to beep when skipping tracks, to determine if the player was advancing due to some erroneous input. It does not beep when this fault occurs, so it does not seem to be a button input error.

This issue does not seem to occur with FLAC files, which are the only other ones I've tried since the upgrade.

I did not experience this issue (or at least, it was infrequent enough that I never witnessed it) with 3.7.1 (or perhaps 3.7 -- I've forgotten which I had before the upgrade. I suspect 3.7.1.) The audio files haven't changed.

This does not always happen in the same spot or with the same files. It's random as far as I can tell.

Possible it's related to this similar issue with WMA Pro files?

Does it happen with the current build?

I just tested it with r29659 on the same hardware described in my post above.

Unfortunately, it behaves the same way.

I can probably encode some Creative Commons or otherwise legally distributable files identically to those I'm experiencing issues with, if that would be of assistance.

I am having the same problem on my Fuze v1 with 3.8, but only with .m4a files.  It just randomly skips to the next song without any noise or anything.

Perhaps this is just an issue with the Fuze - my iPod 5.5 is all .m4a, and I have not had this issue with any post-3.8 build.

All of my files were ripped from original CDs (or converted from .flacs that were) using dBpoweramp, if that makes a difference.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I noticed that while playing a .m4a file it skips to the next .m4a file in the playlist, not the next song.

I also had the issue of my Fuze turning off once during a song, but it's only happened once.

Is anyone working on figuring out/fixing the problem?

Anyway, I upgraded to 3.8.1 and still have the same problem.  I also had a really long playlist (I put my entire player on shuffle) and instead of skipping to the next .m4a file like I said in the previous post it just skipped one song and went to an .mp3.  IDK how many songs it had to go in the playlist before it got to an .m4a.

Again, I don't know if this is relevant, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to give someone all the information they can get if they are trying to figure out the problem...
