Thank you!
« on: March 19, 2011, 06:52:42 PM »
Hi,

I am a new user to Rockbox (on the Fuse v2), and put simply I am blown away.  It is, without question, the BEST interface for a device I have ever used.  It has a rare (and difficult to achieve) balance between customizability and simplicity of use.  It has features (such the ability to delete files and comprehensive bookmarking) that I have long been suffering without.  I am in love with my MP3 player again!  Now I can get back into audio books and podcasts with a UI that actually allows me to manage them properly.

Coming in at such a late stage, I get to enjoy the hard work and suggestions of countless people, as well as excellent stability.  So I thought the least that could be done would be huge THANK YOU to all who have contributed to this masterpiece!  Bravo!

Regards,
Lloyd

I think I've seen somewhere that posting "Thank You" threads is forbidden on this forum, but as I can't see that anywhere anymore, perhaps I'm just confused.

You describe pretty well what I felt last May when I installed Rockbox on my iPod Nano 2G... a bit euphoric and very happy, correct? Now I'm looking forward to read to your opinion about Rockbox ten months after starting using it. :)
(note: I'm still happy, just not euphoric.)

No, it's not forbidden. The only thing (from my view) is that this is a technical forum and it shouldn't be filled with "Thank You" threads all the time. But I've seen such threads in the past, and it's always nice to get feedback from people indicating that the work done was worth it :)

There's only one thing that nags me and that is that there's no player model called "Fuse". I guess that model is the most often misspelled one at all (at least out of the models Rockbox suppports)

Thanks for the clarification.

Spell-checkers in browsers (Google Chrome has one) and misspelled words auto-correction (don't know of any browser that brings that by default, perhaps there are plugins) highly contribute to this phenomenon, I think.

Good point, never thought of that. But now back to work :)

I don't think I can keep up euphoria for ten months.  Not sure I would want to, might be a little exausting  ;D.   Like all good things, I'll be taking it for granted in ten months and will have forgetten how shitty all my previous players were.

And I'm glad that thank you messages are not banned.  If they were clogging up the site (which they don't seem to be), there should be a special section created for them, IMHO.

Lloyd

thats when you decide its got anoying bugs that simply drive you mad and learn C so you can fix them yourself :)

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

This will sound sappy, but it's entirely true:

Almost a year has passed since I started using Rockbox - and I'm still euphoric about it. Simply put, it's the best piece of free software I have seen in my life. I discovered it in the midst of great personal problems, when music was especially important to me. And it helped me to enjoy music (and life in general) just a little bit more. So this is my very personal "THANK YOU" to the Rockbox developers. You rock!
