Edit the configuration from the Rockbox utility
« on: March 17, 2011, 12:52:28 PM »
Hi, I was wondering if this is possible:

I would like to be able to adjust all the settings for Rockbox (Clipv2) from within the rockbox utility. My screen is dead, that's why I'm asking, plus this would be a nice added feature for the utility.

Thanks !

Its not possible through the GUI, although it would be a neat idea.  You can pretty easily do it just by editing the config.cfg files though.  All the options should be explained in the appendix of the manual.

I know it's pretty easy to do, but I would like to have it as a feature someday. Is there a feature request thread somewhere or am I in the right thread here ?

We actually don't accept feature requests:

OK, but it would be a handy feature if some setting messes up your player and you can't change it from within the player itself. No need to be so close-minded about extra options. Its not like I'm asking for mkv support or stuff like that. Editing cfg files might seem scary to some people. I now have to rely on the talking of rockbox for changing my settings which gets annoying. Thanks for your replies. ( i'm not angry   ;D )

Yeah it would, why don't you work on adding it?

I was thinking about this in the past as well, and it would be a nice feature. However, it's not that easy as it sounds initially: how is Rockbox Utility supposed to know about the supported options, and how should it be able to use the correct option set matching for the build on your player? Since the options are defined in source code which uses conditional compiling a lot the supported options vary between players, and even the values available vary. Same is true for different versions of Rockbox. If we have a way to easily provide this editing itself shouldn't be hard to do.

Feel free to work on it, I would happily review patches.

Another possibility to adjust the settings on your PC and knowing which are available is using a Clipv2 simulator and then you can simply use the simulator's config.cfg on your target. If I remember correctly, there are prebuilt sims (for Windows) available from rasher's site linked from the "extras" page.
