TRYING to figure out random play
(1/1)
mcf57:
OK, I must either not have the right manual or not reading it correctly. I have a Sansa e250 with Rockbox v3.6 loaded. It works great, but I'm having a devil of a time trying to figure out how to get ALL the music to play randomly. I can play randomly within one folder, but can't get the all the music (20+ folders) to play randomly. I looked it over and tried to follow its instructions, but I must be doing something wrong here.
I downloaded the manual located here:
http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansae200v2.pdf
Is this the right manual for my rockbox?
If so, any other easier ways or pointers to making ALL the folders (and files within them) to play randomly?
NOTE:
Not sure if this matters, but it might; All these music folders are on an external 16GB SDHC card inserted into the microSD slot.
Chronon:
You didn't say it's a v2, so it should be this manual instead:
http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansae200.pdf
Still, from the standpoint of playlist management, browsing music, etc., they are identical.
There are several ways to do this. A couple of examples:
* Choose Playlists > Create Playlist
* Turn on Shuffle
* Play root.m3u8
* Turn on Shuffle
* Go to Database > Artist > <All Tracks> and start playing the first track
* With playback stopped, use the File Browser's Context Menu to insert the contents of the MicroSD card into a dynamic playlist
* Turn on Shuffle
Basically, you need to generate a saved or dynamic playlist containing all of the tracks you want, then play that shuffled. Familiarize yourself with the Context Menu options in file browser, database, and WPS.
Once a playlist is loaded you can also reshuffle it by choosing Playlist via the WPS Context Menu.

I tried some of these options, but am still having some difficulty. However, I'm wondering if they ALL are tied to something with option #2 (database).
When I go to database, I get the following:
Database is not ready
initialize database?.
I initialized it and let it go through what it needs to do.
I then rebooted the device as instructed.
When I go to database, there is no <ALL TRACKS> option, but rather the following list:
Artist
Albun Artist
Album
Genre
Composer
Track
Year
etc.....
Chronon:
Sorry. that's my mistake. Choose Database > Artist > <All Tracks>
I edited the previous post for future readers.
