Hello,
I have install Rockbox in aa player and had no problem
I just redo exactly the same on this other ipod 5th video using rockboxutility v1.2.8 which does all the work itself.
I import all my music (quiet lot maybe it was too much in one go 52Gb, 12000+song)
I update the database
It started and rebuild database and get stuck with this message "data abort at 004EE74"
Sadly I don't even manage to turn it off again and have no clue what to do.
If I plug by usb it's not visible.
What can I do?
Sorry if it is redondant message, but as I can't restart or plug i don't know where to start?
Maybe a hard reinstall but i don't kno what to press.
Thanks

It seems your player crashed. Use the key combination to force a hard reset.

Ok...
I don't know what happen but it was always crashing during the "commiting librairy" phase.
So I uninstall, reinstall fully rockbox. Reput a 3rd of the music, update database and restart. It's looking to work.
I'll had the rest of the music tomorrow and update database, hoping it didn't crash again.
I had an other ipod 80GB for few month but i lost it. I never had any kind of trouble like this.
Finger cross it's not a dodgy ipod i just bought.
Any files might forced the database to crashed?
Thanks

Hi, I had this same problem.
I ended up plugging the cable in then turning it on, this sort of skipped the database initialise phase.
Then to fix it I went to settings>general settings>database - then I initialised it or I updated, I can't remember. Likely both.
Hope this helps

downgraded to RB 3.7.1 and problem solved.
Cheers!

3.8.1 is now out, which should be fixed.

I get the data abort message shortly after the roxbox splash screen (and scanning disk).
The battery might need to be recharged. Just wondering if I can prevent it from scanning the disk and maybe just try and fully recharge the unit before I install the current build.
My build may be over 2 years old.
Thanks,
JG

If Rockbox is crashing too soon to enter USB mode, then use the iPod's emergency disk mode.
Hold down Menu and Select (the button in the middle of the wheel) at the same time for about 5 seconds or so. As *soon* as the screen goes black, hold down Select and Play, and keep it held down until you see the iPod's screen showing you a message indicating disk mode.
Then you run a chkdsk (from windows) or fsck (from linux) to fix the file system.
Then you can update the build.
