Fuze V2 - Can't Boot OFW.
« on: March 10, 2011, 12:24:37 PM »
Hi everyone.
Today I Rockboxed my Fuze V2 and all was going well for around half an hour.
I plugged it in to my PC (something I had already done once before after installing Rockbox with no problems) to add some more music but much to my dismay, drivers 'failed to install' and the Fuze froze at the loading screen.
Resetting it allowed me to boot into Rockbox, but I can't boot into OFW by holding the left button down... it just freees at the startup screen.
I can't do anything with it through USB because I just get 'Device not recognized'.
I've tried refreshing the drivers through Device Manager but that doesn't work either.
Any ideas?
In its current state I can't really do anything with my Fuze other than play Invadrox and listen to Behemoth - both of which are entertaining ;).
Thanks in advance!

What happens if you plug in USB with the unit powered off?

Thanks for the reply :).
That's what I'm doing haha, doesn't show up or anything.
I can't boot up into OFW to boot it up powered on, either.

What happens, though?  Does Rockbox boot?

I would try uninstalling the device through windows.  Then reconnect and see if it will recognize it as a UMS device.

edit:
The original firmware is used for USB in your player.  For some reason it appears to not be booting.  Inserting USB while it's powered off as well as inserting it while plugged in should cause the original firmware to boot.  (Also, the normal method of holding Left while booting, which should continue to work even after Rockbox has its own USB mode enabled.)

When I plug the player in turned off, the Fuze plays the startup screen as if to boot into OFW or display the 'USB connected' screen, then freezes at the pretty logo with the red, orange, blue and green shape. Nothing happens past that.
Windows gives me 'Device not recognized' at the bottom right in the notifications area.
Thanks for the suggestion but I've already tried it... Windows scans for drivers, says the drivers failed to install, and I can't do anything.
Trying to boot OFW by holding the left button gives me the same 'freeze at the logo' problem as trying to connect it through USB turned off. It just freezes up at the logo and nothing happens.
It seems that the problem is OFW-specific. I can boot Rockbox fine.
I appreciate the reply!

It sounds like this could be a way forward:

Thanks for the suggestion.
I tried the USB thing around four times just, unplugging at different times and the result is still the same. The logo just... stays, and I need to reset by keeping the power button in the 'off' position for a few seconds.
If I need to do anything hardware-related to this I should just throw in the towel right now haha.

It strikes me as being completely bizarre but plugging in the SD card and booting up seems to have fixed the problem. Weird.
Could someone please explain to me when exactly it is safe to unplug an SD card from a Fuze?
