playing flac through car stereo. any advancements?

i ve been on this forum about 2-3 years ago and at that time ipod control wasnt implemented for car stereo.

i ve been trying to see if anything changed since then but i cant seem to find an answer. i searched here and tried to see in the manuals and faq section and wiki but couldnt find it.

can i play my flac files in the car and control my ipod?

i know that with original firmware the ipod just sends the file directly to the headunit
for decoding which means whatever the stereo supports will be played, and flac is not on that list.

and mass storage same way.

new sony headunits are now using ipod  to decode the file into PCMwav and send it to car stereo.

so maybe theres a chance to do somemore with those units, if it hasnt been done yet.

Chronon:
It will certainly take a lot of work to implement support for this in Rockbox.  People are, of course, welcome to work on this.

fuzzysig:
so im assuming then that its not functional?

what about the threads with factory ipod plugs where the control works?

or is it only for playing MP3 and other car stereo supported formats?

Llorean:
If the car stereo works as a standard iPod remote control, and accepts audio from the iPod's line out, I think it'll work. In that case the car stereo is basically working like an iPod dock, remote, and speakers, which in many cases (but not all) do work.

fuzzysig:
so its not a digital signal then right? the ipod plug has another AUX in  it?

im just asking if its possible or not to play flac on car stereo with a digital signal through usb.
