Frustration mounting...Rockbox isn't :) Please help
« on: March 05, 2011, 05:00:40 PM »
Hi.  I'm new here.  Great site.  My problem is I am trying to install RB on my v2 using my Mac.  I have d/l'ed the necessary files, but I am unable to find .bin file when prompted.  I think it may have to do with the OF d/ling as a .exe.  I cannot open .exe on my Mac.  So, I am thinking the fuze.bin file I need is within the OF.

JSYK, I have d/l'ed the OF, the bootloader, and the RB file as instructed on the AMS wiki page.

Can RB be installed on v2 using a Mac?  If so, how do I find the fuze.bin file?

Any help is most appreciated.  I've been at this for three days. :)

The sandisk firmware update is a .bin file, not a .exe.  If you downloaded a .exe, you probably clicked some other link, perhaps for the sandisk windows utility or whatever they call it.  Go back to the sandisk site, and this time read more carefully, then pick the link for the firmware file.

v2 of what? While the rest of your post indicates that you might be talking about a Fuze this is not clear. There are a couple of players that have a v2 version. I will assume you're talking about a Fuze v2 in the following.

Also, please use real words in these forums as per posting guidelines. Thanks.

The Fuze firmware is provided both with included "Sansa Updater" (as exe file) and without (as zip file). Just look carefully at the page Rockbox Utility points to.

Yes. By looking (I've used those firmware files myself for testing, even without having a Fuze v2 so I know the files do exist.).

Found it.  Thanks.  For anyone else in a similiar situation, you will want to download the file for "All Regions", not the Sansa Firmware Updater.  I finally got it after three days.  Once downloaded, you will have a folder named fuze02, in which you will find the fuzpa.bin file.

Someone may want to clarify this point, if needed, in the manual.  Doesn't mention anything in the manual.

And I apologize for not reading the forum rules beforehand.  Was a little frustrated and went straight to the forum looking for an answer.

For the Fuze v1 the forum post explicitly lists a "Manual Firmware Update", for the v2 it unfortunately does not. I think this can be a bit confusing but it's Sandisks site after all.

This is not entirely correct -- that folder "fuze02" is created by Mac OS X. This is a known behaviour of OS X (it will always create a folder with the basename of the zip and extract all contents into that folder) that can be quite annoying (if the zip file is packaged "properly" and contains its files into a separate folder). On Windows you only have two files in the archive, no folder.

True, but the Rockbox manual should make mention of this on v2 so it is made clear.

True
Now I know that anyone else who may find themselves in need of help can find the answer.  Simply searching for .bin will bring this thread up. :)
