Toshiba Gigabeat S Battery Life Problem.
« on: March 02, 2011, 02:57:19 AM »
Apologies if this isn't the right section.

I've got the 30gb Gigabeat S with Rockbox 3.7 on it.

The battery life seems ridiculously short, 2-3 hours of just playing music (without ever touching the screen). Sometimes when I turn it on the battery will read really low (8 or so) then climb up to 50 or 60.

It also seems to not want to charge from USB even though I have it set to charge from there. I can leave it plugged into my laptop overnight and when i get to it in the morning it will just be at 20% or so, even if it was higher than that when I plugged it in.

Any ideas on what would be causing this?

The battery life on the S is crap anyway, and it is a bit worse on Rockbox than in the OF as far as I remember.

Having said that, 2-3 hours is overly short, it sounds like you need a new battery.  This is backed up by your observation that the battery reads low after activity then rises, which is another symptom of an old battery.

The battery is old, it needs replacing.  With a new one you should get something like 8-10 hours.
