Ipod nano 1g stops and starts playback
« on: February 28, 2011, 10:37:27 AM »
I am having an issue with music on my rockboxed ipod 4gb nano 1g.
I installed rockbox yesterday, and I can't get it to work properly.
I can do all the configuration normally, but when I play a file, all the buttons stop working (except the Hold and the hard reset), and the music plays for about 3 seconds and "pauses", then after about 3 seconds it starts again from where it stopped, then stops again, and it goes like this the whole time until I hard reset it.
I am playing m4a (HE-AAC) files, already tried uninstalling and reinstalling rockbox.
Thanks for your help

edit: I just tested an MP3 file, and it plays normally. The .m4a files are still with problems...

Your ipod is too slow to play AAC-HE files.

That's bad.... Do you know another format that is smaller than a 192 kbps mp3 with the same quality that can be used in my ipod?

Thanks

AAC-HE is generally used for low quality, low bitrate files.  If you just want something for high quality audio, AAC, MP3, Vorbis, MPC, WMA, or WMA Pro will all work.

Thanks for the quick replies.

I just tried converting a song to Windows Media Audio Professional (64 kbps) with winamp, and the device still won't play it. When I select the file to play, it quickly flashes tha WPS screen an returns to the previous screen I was at. I thought it would work, since it says in the manual that the format is supported: http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodnano1g/rockbox-buildap1.html#x16-355000A

Is this a bug, or my ipod really can't play this format?
Thanks, sorry for the inconvenience

It should.  Can you link the file?

It is a song, so as I am not sure if I am allowed to post it here, I cut a slice of it, and used the same converters and everything.

The file is too large to attach, so I uploaded it o Mediafire

PS: I tried the rockbox simulator on my computer, and it gives the same problem the actual device does.

edit: These are the settings I used on the wma converter: http://www.mediafire.com/?49i7h94hhgm3wow

Use a different format, would also help. Regular AAC would be fine.
