Sansa Clip+ and some other Problems
« on: February 25, 2011, 07:55:59 PM »
Hello,

I purchased the sansa clip+ some days ago. Alongside it has µSD for lots of memory, a cue-feature is very importand for me. So I was happy that rockbox supports that player. My old Archos Gmini 202XS wasn't supported by Rockbox, so no chance for a cue-feature.

Well, I was then a little disapointed when I discouvered the cue-feature. It's not that comfortable like in foobar2000. Just some weeks ago I putted the cue-files in subdirectorys. Now I can change the FILE-Attribute back if I'd like to use the cue-files on the player. However, I discovered some problems with the player and rockbox.

  • The player isn't regocnized propably all the time by Windows 7 (not actually a rockbox problem)
  • I can't see the presaved 6 default mp3-files by the player when I'm browsing the filesystem in windows
  • If I'm changing files on the internal memory I have to reinstall the bootloader all the time to be able starting rockbox again
  • I was skipping some songs (in rockbox) by doing this directory change feature. There's only one music directory in the music-folder. The player changed to the "if u like to use slotradio"-file. After I did the directory change feature again, the player played the default mp3-files that are stored somewhere I don't know. After that I shut the player down, turned it on again and all mp3-files disappeared. I can't play any soundfiles because no files were found

Well, I'm not very satisfied about rockbox. The only choice to use rockbox was the cue-feature for me and it doesn't satisfies me.
I've got some experience in C++ and Java. How do I get started if I'd like to code about that cue-sheet stuff?

Greetings

You can dual boot rockbox and the OF.  Just reboot and you'll end up in rockbox (this is in the manual if thats unclear). I recommend not reinstalling the bootloader, if that screws up you can brick your player.

If you don't want to hear the slot radio mp3, you should consider deleting it.

I don't know what you want to do about CUE files, but the code for them is scattered around /apps.

I figured that multiboot feature out by searching the forums. To load the old OS I have to hold home and poweron and just poweron to load rockbox. But after putting new files on the player I just have to push the poweron button to load the old OS and I can't start rockbox. Also the patched firmware bin file by rockbox disappeared.

Well, it's not just about that slot radio mp3, it's about I can't locate that files and my own files disappeared in rockbox by some reason.

I'd like to have some more flexibility about cue-files e.g. selecting songs directly from cue-files, easier navigating and playlisthandling like in foobar etc. Maybe it's a little difficult to understand.

I found now a file in my rockbox folder called 'database.ignore'. Why the hell is that file there and is that maybe the reasen why there are no music files anymore shown in rockbox?

Positive thing, after I putted some new music files on the player, I needn't to reinstall the bootloader.

EDIT: Ok I found now out why there is that database.ignore file. But Rockbox still doesn't shows any music file on my player. I don't know why.

I would strongly suggest that you read the manual.

I read the manual, but English is not my native language so some things are difficult to understand.

But after spending lot's of hours today with Clip+, Rockbox and designing my own playback-skin (quite simular to the one from archos gmini 202xs) satisfied me a lot today. Also I found out there is a way to scroll fast through all songs in a cue-sheet by accessing the context menu with long select.

The manual is fragmentary e.g. on page 30. You can go to the next directory by power + right or alternativly short right + long right. But in cue-mode the last combination skips the whole track, a very usefull feature for me. It would be nicer to press home + right, because short and long right is IMO not the nicest shortcut. ;-)
