Voice TTS generation issues...

(1/1)

edwardecl:
Just thought I'd let to let you know that the latest version of the utility [1.2.8] TTS (SAPI) voice generation is broken and never finishes encoding the wavs to .talk files. I downloaded a version prior to this before any upgrades to the TTS from the changelog (1.2.6) and this version works OK and does not have any errors creating the .talk files.

I'm assuming the advancement of "(all) Multicore support for TTS and encoders (FS#11160)" has broken this perhaps? I have only used this program on multi core Windows machines (7 x64, XP x32) and both fail in the same way at random files. Here is part of the log at the part where it fails...

[RbSpeex] Encoding  "C:/Users/EDWARD~1/AppData/Local/Temp/rbvoice//LANG_SHUFFLE_PLAYLIST.wav"  to  "C:/Users/EDWARD~1/AppData/Local/Temp/rbvoice//LANG_SHUFFLE_PLAYLIST.mp3"
[RbSpeex] Encoding  "C:/Users/EDWARD~1/AppData/Local/Temp/rbvoice//LANG_CATALOG_VIEW.wav"  to  "C:/Users/EDWARD~1/AppData/Local/Temp/rbvoice//LANG_CATALOG_VIEW.mp3"
[RbSpeex] Error: could not open input file

Which seems to suggest the WAV file is missing. Not a big deal I will just used 1.2.6 for now.

This is a known issue, and it's likely that the multicore support broke it. Since I didn't have a multicore machine in the past i wasn't able to reproduce it but since that changed recently I should recheck.

I've had the same issue a while back.
I went to the Temp folder and tried again and that seemed to do the trick. Also try copying your .rockbox folder to the desktop, try from there and then copy it back to your player. These are just tips and in no way a guarantee to solving your problems. Hope this helps you.

It seems to me it never works on Vista/7 but in XP after 2 tries it eventually will work. I hope this is reported already.
