NES Emulator?
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:37:08 PM »
Just wondering, has anyone ever released a NES emulator for rockbox? I would like to play the likes of Gradius and Zelda on my ipod mini. Has anyone simply ported these two games before?
Controls could be;
Select-A
Spin Right-B
Menu-Up
>!!-Down
<<-Left
>>-Right
Hold (flick)-Start
Spin Left-Select

There's a FS patch at FS#2911, but it looks pretty old.

Gradius and The Legend of Zelda each got their own Game Boy installments back in the day, so you could consider playing those on the Game Boy Color emulator in the meantime.
Gradius: The Interstellar Assault
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

I dont know if it's right to say this on the forum because it´s not about rockbox, but there is a great emulator called iDarcNES from iPodLinux. Download zeroslackr to install it easier  (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zeroslackr/ it is a pack of emulators and apps). I think ipl emulators are great, too sad its a dead project.

But in this case, I'll just say one thing about it.

While iPodLinux may be a dead project, if someone wanted to take the source code for iDarcNES and port it over to work on Rockbox, they're free to do so. However, please keep this in mind: Rockbox's main goal is not emulators, it's the best damn audio playback you can find.

AFAIK, iDarcnes is not GPL-compliant, so it can't be ported to Rockbox.
